epiphone casino elitist nitro finish or polyurethane

I've just started the layering and wet sanding, and based on prior guitar finishing experience, I will be getting a look like a sheet of glass or water over the wood. Nitro absolutely CAN be applied so as to have the same gloss as poly. However, I have worked with polyurethane in guitar spot repairs and I'm shooting a nitrocellulose lacquer (or what is closest to an actual nitro that can be purchased easily from a home store these days) on a project Partscaster right now. Poly is more durable' date=' and I agree with much of what's been said here thus far. I'm guessing your question pertains to guitars that come from the factory with one of the two finishes.

What are the differences between the two? otherwise, i'm not going to pay $500 extra because it took 2 extra weeks to build the thing.

Would i like to have a nice new Epiphone Casino with a nitro finish instead of poly? sure!! if it was stock. you could finish that in nitro and it would still sound like a fart smells. poly doesn't make a $50 Ibanez sound bad, but the crap particle board body does. nitro *might* sound a bit more open, but keep in mind that most of the time, the quality of the base materials in a poly guitar is not the same as those painted in nitro. I believe Gibson must use it too, but I have no facts on that so I won't make any up. poly can be sprayed anywhere and is used extensively even in the United States.one example being Fender USA, which uses a poly base on most of their guitars to help the nitro dry evenly and look nice. (sarcasm, i don't hate my country) nitro takes years to cure and fully dry. Nitro typically means it has to be American made, because nowhere else is stupid enough to store gallons of explosively flammable paint next to kilns drying thousands of tons of highly flammable wood. the other is not some horrible evil thing invented in nazi germany to make guitars sound muddy. one is not a magic secret coating that makes every guitar sound perfect. One makes a guitar cost $500, the other costs $2500
